87 pickup a/c lost freon into the cab. Expansion valve?

1987 Toyota P/U @ 130000 mi. 5 spd. 2 wd

     The a/c has lost freon pressure and I suspect the expansion valve as this was the case @ 2 yr ago. Where is the expansion valve located?

Could an expansion valve malfunction result in the discharge of freon into the cab?
